We are seeking an uncommon professional to join our team as a Senior IT Design Manager

This position is responsible for leading a team of designers and business analysts that work across our Consumer and Sales application portfolio. This person will oversee projects and ongoing application, technology or process support as our organization evolves its capabilities around multi-channel marketing, B2B sales and consumer sales and service. The position may be responsible for multiple operations, functions, technologies, processes and/or projects. This person will direct the activities of professional staff in the research, development, implementation, support and education of new methods and technologies, providing thought leadership to our Consumer and Sales business on how to leverage technology to enable business goals.

This person will lead a team in meeting defined objectives and goals. This person is responsible for communicating all team activities, project status and operational performance metrics for their area of responsibility. This person will develop & manage budgets, plans, and resources to provide applications/systems/technologies/services/ education for a defined Business Area or all CUNA Mutual employees and in some cases affiliated companies.

Job Responsibilities:

Application, Data & Technical Strategy: 10-15%

1. Build and drive system roadmaps for the Consumer and Sales application portfolio. Assess the health of current applications and generate recommendations for technology enhancements. Ensure planned delivery activities are in alignment with long-term technology footprint.
2. Participate in initiatives that support the enterprise data strategy. Ensure data layer meets the needs of business applications.
3. Complete medium-term planning (monthly, quarterly, and annually) for projects, technologies, processes, staffing, budgeting, etc. within area of responsibility.
4. Participate in enterprise level technology initiatives as needed.

Project & System Executions: 30-40%

1. Oversee one or many project teams as needed to support Consumer and Sales or technology projects and requests. Ensure that the technical and functional results are delivered as agreed upon with the project sponsors. Coordinate with staff across Enterprise Architecture, Operations, Development, IT, and other areas of the business to solve technology issues and identify improvement opportunities.
2. Lead the analysis and design processes in partnership with the Development team. Ensure our systems maintain compliance and data privacy is secured in accordance with internal standards. Understand how applications interact and overlay with our infrastructure.
3. Partner with the business to develop and/or understand project priorities, and build corresponding business cases to define project scope, budget, required resources, etc. Mitigate issues and risks appropriately and ensure continuity of design across projects by partnering with enterprise architecture and project management team.
4. Manage relationships both internally and externally in order to effectively drive analysis and design processes. Collaboration with multiple sources will be critical, including our business customers and the Development team. Ensure all activity is delivered in compliance with normal policies, procedures, technology standards, security requirements, etc. of CMG and the IT department.

Business Leadership & Customer Relationship: 20-30%

1. Understand business needs and processes for areas of responsibility. Proactively work with Business Leaders, understand their business plans to help craft their plans into projects. Ensure the application footprint/infrastructure will support the current and planned needs of the Business Areas.
2. Monitor customer satisfaction with project execution, operational support. Identify opportunities and implement changes to drive improvement in service.
3. Partner with enterprise architects in developing strategies for how the organization can leverage current or future vendor relationships in such a manner as to capitalize on key and emerging capabilities within the product/portfolio roadmaps impacting our business. Role includes strategic planning and participation in vendor selection/retention processes.

People Leadership: 20-30%

1. Responsible for the consistent delivery of HR processes: recruiting, hiring, training, career development, performance management, etc. Evaluate managers and team members in both technical duties and professional aspects of their performance.
2. Define team structure and resource levels, including on ongoing assessment of the skills needed for analysis, design, and development within the team. Prioritize and allocate resources and responsibilities across the application team to meet required Business Area results.
3. Communicate and reinforce CMG/IT/application/infrastructure team goals, policies and procedures to staff members.
4. Coach/mentor team members and foster an environment of continuous improvement, growth, and engagement. Align team members in roles to best take advantage of their strengths and to grow/diversify their skill sets. Solicit regular feedback from the team and address accordingly.

Required Skills/Experience:

1. College degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent trade-off in related professional work experience, including prior leadership roles with a consumer brand.
2. Portfolio management, including demonstrated ability to manage capabilities from initial development through investment, maintenance and disposition. Demonstrated experience in driving build vs. buy decisions involving technology.
3. Experience with project management methodologies, SDLC, software lifecycle management.
4. Vendor selection and management experience, outsourcing, SaaS.
5. SOA implementation experience.
6. Familiarity with implementing and/or managing one or more key technologies for this space - master data management, enterprise service bus, Salesforce, IBM Unica products and Knowledge Management solutions.
7. Excellent leadership, communication and presentations skills.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

1. Experience with multi-channel marketing, direct marketing, sales, and customer service business models.
2. Experience implementing technologies to expand channels and media (web, contact center, mail, email, social, mobile, etc.) in both direct-to-consumer and B2B business models.
3. Knowledge of insurance (life and property/casualty) and/or credit union business models and concepts.
