Statistical Reporting Analyst Job (Madison, WI, US)

Work Location: This position is located in Madison, WI.

We are seeking an uncommon professional to join our team as a Statistical Reporting Analyst.

Under the direction of the Statistical Reporting Manager, apply appropriate knowledge and expertise to the accurate and timely completion of ad hoc reports, projects, data extracts, and data analysis. Develop, test, and document effective solutions to arrive at specific and crucial information for management decision-making and financial analysis. Assume responsibility for the accuracy and appropriateness of the statistics generated by the systems. Proactively identify areas for process improvements, staying current as technologies and insurance products emerge or change. Work independently, with little direction. May act as project leader in one or more stages of a project.

Job Responsibilities

10% 1. Customer Interaction: Work closely with the customer to define/validate reporting needs and delivery mechanisms. Assist management staff in the interpretation of the data/results, leveraging analytical skills to help drive strategic direction. Manage customer expectations within service level agreements. Act as liaison between business and IT on ad hoc requests which transition to recurring production reports so that this transition is seamless to the customer. Consult with business to identify future information needs and recommend solutions.

40% 2. Ad Hoc Reporting: Translate ad hoc reporting requirements into appropriate solutions. This includes validating business requirements, identifying data sources and data definitions, data extraction, determination of delivery mechanism, difficult to complex programming, and testing programs/results as required for special statistical studies. A key component to this process is analyzing data results to ensure that data is relevant for intended management use/decision-making process.

10% 3. Project Lead: Act as a liaison between the department, IT/BA staff, and affiliated entities by providing business requirements, handling questions, and testing results. This includes leading projects which require operational and interface modifications to support ad hoc or bureau reporting changes/additions. Work with affiliated entities, including external affiliates, to develop methods of merging their source data with CUNA Mutual data for reporting.

15% 4. Information Customer Support: Support information users in identifying sources of data, data definitions, data extracts/reports, problem/variance resolution, and collaborative development of reporting systems for pricing, valuation, reserving, product development, financial analysis, and audits. Evaluate the impact of operational systems modifications and/or product changes/additions on reporting environments. Identify future information needs and lead efforts to update operational and/or reporting systems.

15% 5. Quality Control: Ensure complete and accurate logical definition, analysis, and design of data. Monitor compliance with standards, procedures, and business practices. Validate report results to ensure accuracy and integrity of data. Research errors. Work with appropriate department to correct the source of the error to include reporting data defects to IT and acting as a liaison between the department and IT staff to communicate issues, identify solutions, handle questions, and test system modifications. Proactively identify opportunities for improvements in processes.

10% 6. Bureau/Compliance Reporting: Support bureau reporting functions during peak periods. Develop, maintain, and enhance assigned bureau reporting systems.

Job Requirements

1. Bachelor's degree in statistics, computer science, mathematics or other hard science required or equivalent trade-off in
related professional work experience.

2. Four years progressively responsible work experience in a reporting environment to include data analysis, data extraction,
programming, and testing programs/results.

3. Demonstrated expertise in computer systems and languages including interaction with other
departmental/enterprise/affiliated systems.

4. Demonstrated ability to analyze mathematical and statistical information and to translate mathematical problems into
software solutions.

5. Demonstrated leadership, analytical, and planning skills to include project management.

6. Demonstrated ability to clearly and effectively communicate in person and in writing.

7. Good understanding of insurance products and financial principles with the ability to analyze financial operations,
recommend new tools or processes to improve efficiency, and implement new methods.

8. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

9. Familiar with business intelligence and data warehouse objectives, methods, and tools.
