Job Responsibilities
Working under the direction of an experienced Archival Consultant, and with a high degree of independence, this position is responsible for the systematic preservation of corporate information assets based on recorded memory and communications. This position will maintain and improve the collection, and preserve and provide appropriate access to significant historical records and information in a variety of formats, including paper, electronic, audio-visual, and photographic. This unique corporate asset of information and documents assists the Corporation in making important legal, marketing, communications, strategic, and financial decisions. This may include preparation of information about sensitive and/or confidential matters.
Utilize a high degree of discretion in handling sensitive information for effective management of corporate records and maintenance of corporate confidentiality and proprietary information.
Identify, acquire, organize, arrange and describe archival materials in keeping with accepted professional archival standards for corporate archives and administer and make accurate evaluations of the significance of documents, photographic and audio-visual materials, and artifacts documenting CUNA Mutual’s history, products and services, and growth and development, to support and preserve evidence of corporate operations, goals and objectives.
Dispose of unneeded corporate records in keeping with legal requirements, corporate needs, current or potential importance, and other professionally established criteria.
Research topics and prepare reports as needed to provide background analysis on numerous subjects to assist in making strategic and technical decisions utilizing the archives as the resource. This often includes preparation of information for management on sensitive materials which must be kept confidential.
Job Requirements
Successful candidates should have the following knowledge, skills and capabilities:
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, preferably in History or allied discipline.
- Post-graduate coursework in library and information studies (archival concentration with experience in the arrangement and description of archival records) desirable.
- Demonstrated knowledge of archival principles and practices.Analytical and organizational skills, including basic computer skills (Word, Excel, simple database usage).
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and problem resolution skills, verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, as well as cooperatively as part of a team to complete projects in a timely manner.
- Ability to lift cartons weighing up to 40 pounds.
